World Oceans Day | Summary of the 10th National College World Oceans Day Themed Fun Run and Marine Culture Festival Challenge

Release time:2025-06-10

On the afternoon of June 6, the 10th "Run toward the Sea, Run toward the Future" nationwide college fun run, organized by the China Ocean Society and hosted by the School of Marine Science and Technology at Tianjin University, concluded successfully! And let’s take a moment to review the entire process.

The event officially kicked off! Each participating team first engaged in the "Marine Knowledge Quiz," where they could unlock the fun fishing competition by correctly answering science questions. Successfully catching six fish would provide clues to the hidden locations of all three fun run check-in points! After completing this series of challenges, the fun run adventure officially began!

Don’t be fooled by the term "fun run"; the competition among teams is anything but casual! From cleverly designing routes to scientifically distributing physical energy, from racing against the clock to reach check-in points to capturing group photos for verification, and to finally making a swift return to the starting point—each step required seamless cooperation among team members.

How to take the lead? Strong physical fitness is the foundation for the final sprint, but mutual encouragement and collaborative planning are the keys to victory!

At the "Lacquer Fan Making" activity site, blank lacquer fans and natural pigments were provided. Teachers and students incorporated thematic words such as "Ocean," "World Oceans Day," and "Striving Towards the Sea" with oceanic colors like blue, green, and gold. Using techniques like dripping and diffusion, they created artworks on the fan surfaces. Once the lacquer was mixed with water, it naturally spread out, forming flowing ripples and gradient effects. The final winner was a lacquer fan that beautifully combined artistry with an environment-friendly concept.

On the morning of June 7, in anticipation of World Oceans Day, the School of Marine Science and Technology held a unique event—the Marine Culture Festival Fun Challenge, organized by the study group of Party membership applicants. The event was a resounding success, thanks to the enthusiastic participation of the students!

In this fun-filled origami boat activity, the rules required participants to fold as many paper boats as possible within two minutes. The atmosphere at the event was lively, with numerous participants racing against the clock. Through hands-on practice, they experienced the charm of marine culture while enhancing their practical skills and competitive spirit.

The timed fishing game was successfully held in a joyful atmosphere. Participants eagerly wielded their fishing rods, racing against the clock to catch toy fish and little crabs from the blue water pool. Laughter filled the event as both teachers and students immersed themselves in the thrilling and fun challenge, enjoying every moment of the experience.

The event featured four enclosed boxes, each containing marine creatures such as shrimp and shellfish. Participants were tasked with identifying the biological characteristics of the creatures through touch only, completing the "Mystery Box Exploration" challenge. Some students quickly made accurate judgments based on their familiarity with the characteristics of marine life, while others responded cautiously after carefully comparing their tactile experiences. This interactive approach to integrating marine biology knowledge not only tested participants' observational skills but also enhanced everyone's understanding of marine ecology in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.

As the Marine Culture Festival Fun Challenge comes to a successful close, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to every member of the organizing team for their thoughtful planning and dedicated efforts. We also thank the teachers and students for their enthusiastic response and active participation. This enjoyable journey, linked by the ocean, vividly illustrated the unique charm of marine culture through laughter and joy, while subtly conveying the concept of "protecting the ocean" through interactive experiences.
