On the afternoon of May 23, President Chai Liyuan visited the School of Marine Science and Technology for a research investigation and received a work report from the school. Members of the School's leadership team, faculty representatives, and student representatives attended the symposium, which was chaired by the Party Secretary of the School, Mr. Shan Xiaolin.

The School Dean, Prof. Zhai Jingsheng, provided a detailed introduction to the development of the School of Marine Science and Technology, covering aspects such as the school's overview, discipline system, faculty team, governance structure, talent cultivation, research system, teaching and research conditions, and social services. The attendees shared their insights and suggestions for the development of the university and the school based on their own experiences and circumstances.

President Chai Liyuan emphasized the need to aim for becoming a leading world-class university by systematically planning and refining the discipline directions of the school. He outlined several key points for talent cultivation, scientific research, and resource integration:

The first is to align with national strategic needs: The school should orient its focus towards national strategic demands and align with societal needs, further refining and concentrating on its marine science disciplines.

The second is to strengthen team construction: Based on the discipline direction, it is important to enhance team development and establish a robust talent development pipeline.

The third is to conduct systematic strategic research: The school should conduct systematic strategic research, creating scientific research plans centered around key research and major projects, while also establishing top-level design and clarifying essential task lists.

And the fourth is to enhance external resource integration: Establishing better connections with leading experts, major enterprises, and emerging trends is crucial. By leveraging these relationships, the school can enhance its academic influence and social impact.

President Chai further emphasized that marine science is a future-oriented industry with significant potential. The school should develop specific strategies for each discipline, in line with the university's overall policies. This approach should involve formulating development plans, clarifying development goals, paths, and resource guarantees, thereby promoting high-quality development for the school and advancing to new heights.
