Opening Ceremony: Passing on the Legacy of 130 Years, Setting Sail Together for Precision Instruments and Marine Science and Technology

On September 21, 2025, at 3:00 PM, the opening ceremony for the 2025 cohort of undergraduate students in the School of Marine Science and Technology, as well as School of Precision Instruments was grandly held in the Mao Yisheng Hall of the Earthquake Engineering Laboratory at the Peiyang Garden Campus of Tianjin University.

Attending the ceremony were Prof. Zhai Jingsheng, Dean of the School of Marine Science and Technology; Mr. Shan Xiaolin, Party Secretary; Mr. Jin Nan, Deputy Party Secretary; Prof. Su Rongxin, Vice Dean; Mr. Gong Le, Vice Dean; Prof. Zhu Jigui, Dean of the School of Precision Instruments; Prof. Lu Li, Deputy Party Secretary; Prof. Wang Peng, Deputy Dean; as well as class advisors and mentor representatives, along with all the undergraduate students of the 2025 engineering experimental class (Precision Instruments and Photoelectric Information). The ceremony was hosted by Mr. Jin Nan, Deputy Party Secretary of the School of Marine Science and Technology.


The ceremony commenced with the solemn sound of the national anthem. All faculty and students stood together to sing, and the stirring melody resonated throughout the venue, igniting the patriotic fervor and sense of responsibility among the new students.


Prof. Zhai Jingsheng, Dean of the School of Marine Science and Technology was the first to deliver a speech.


He extended a heartfelt welcome on behalf of the college to all new students in the 2025 cohort and encouraged them to cherish every moment at Tianjin University. He emphasized the importance of solidifying their professional foundations while also daring to transcend disciplinary boundaries and promote interdisciplinary integration. He urged students to proactively align their personal growth with national strategic needs, aspiring to become engineering leaders with both a sense of patriotism and a global perspective.


The subsequent class messages and flag-raising ceremony brought the event to a climax, with teacher and student representatives from each class coming to the stage. The teachers imparted their heartfelt words of guidance, like a gentle spring breeze nurturing them, while the students proudly proclaimed their class motto, their resolute beliefs blooming vibrantly.


Following this, the teachers and students of each class received their class flags and waved them together. The blue and purple banners soared high in the venue, glistening under the spotlight and symbolizing the unity of the collective and the inheritance of their spirit. This also marked the official integration of the 2025 cohort into the family of the School of Precision Instruments.


The ceremony concluded on a high note with all faculty and students singing the majestic Tianjin University anthem together. The resounding melody carries the profound spirit of 130 years of Tianjin University, and the passionate voices express the youthful vigor of generations of Tianjin University students. This moment reflects both the sincere hopes of alumni and the solemn commitments of the new generation of Tianjin University students.


The opening ceremony is not only the starting point of the new students' university journey but also an essential part of the School of Precision Instruments' efforts to implement the "Three Comprehensive Education" approach and cultivate exceptional engineers.
